The FTSE UK Commercial Property Index Series provides investors with a daily measure of the performance of investable, institutional grade commercial property in the UK. It is made up of the FTSE All UK Property Index, the FTSE UK Retail Property Index, the FTSE UK Office Property Index, and the FTSE UK Industrial Property Index, and the series gives investors daily performance data on the retail, office and industrial sectors of the UK commercial property market, for the first time.
The FTSE UK Commercial Property Index Series is designed to reflect the investment performance of retail, office and industrial property in the UK. The total size of the retail, office and industrial stock is presently estimated to be over £797 billion (as at May 2008), of which some 43% is investment stock, the remainder held by owner-occupiers. The total return from UK commercial property has outperformed equities and gilts over the last three, five and 10 years. This is an innovative approach to indexing offering investors new ways to benchmark alternative asset classes. The series has already proved popular with investors - RBS and Abbey have both been licensed to create products on the indices.
