The climate change criteria for the FTSE4Good index series are designed to encourage companies to offset climate change, and were introduced to keep the index series aligned with one of the major concerns facing business and investors today.
Since the introduction of the FTSE4Good index series, the criteria for inclusion have been toughened and new criteria have been introduced to make companies constantly improve their standards to stay in the indices. The climate change criteria were introduced after FTSE Group undertook a broad public climate change consultation with corporations, fund managers, non-government organisations and private investors. The criteria were developed in conjunction with The Climate Group, The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, The Carbon Trust, Forum for the Future and the World Wildlife Fund.
They will be implemented into the index series on a phased basis over two years, with the first deadline in January 2008.
