Company Classification - ICB

FTSE has long been a pioneer in the area of classification. In 2005, FTSE Group and Dow Jones Indexes merged their industry classification systems and created a single definitive system covering over 65,000 securities worldwide. ICB has today become a global industry standard for research, trading and investment decision-making in the market.

ICB is a comprehensive structure for sector and industry analysis, facilitating the comparison of companies across four levels of classification and national boundaries. Divided into 4 tiers: Industries, Supersectors, Sectors, and Subsectors, ICB allows for analysis of both broad industry trends and more detailed analysis across regions and countries.

Over 50 global financial organizations have integrated ICB into their products and services, including NASDAQ, the New York Stock Exchange, UBS, Fitch Inc., FactSet, Telekurs, Thomson Financial, Markit Group, and the World Economic Forum, as well as media outlets including the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC and Dow Jones Newswires
