The FTSE/JSE Advisory Committee met today (06 December 2006) to approve the quarterly changes to the FTSE/JSE Index series. All constituent, sector, free float and shares in issue changes will be applied after the close of business on Friday, 15 December 2006 and will be effective on Monday, 18 December 2006 After comprehensive deliberations by the FTSE/JSE Advisory committee and wide market consultation, it has been agreed that as an exceptional case, Lonmin PLC will be eligible to join the FTSE JSE indices with a free float percentage of 5%, effective after close of business on 15 December 2006. Feedback from the market indicated that there will be severe liquidity constraints, if this company is included at its full 100% free float. The 5% free float figure is based on Ground rule 4.3.4 which stipulates this number as a minimum free float for large enough companies to be included in the indices. This percentage will be monitored throughout the quarter and an announcement will be made in advance of any future changes.
